Dearest Confirmation Candidates,

The restrictions of the pandemic have sadly postponed the celebration of your Confirmation. With your parish priest, your teachers and family, I share in your disappointment. And we all eagerly look forward to that joyful day when it will be possible to anoint you and to seal you with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Be assured that that day will come in the early fall or perhaps a little bit later.  In the meantime, remember that since your Baptism the Spirit of God lives within you—always ready to guide, encourage, comfort and challenge you. The Holy Spirit gives you courage to face today’s difficult situations. You are never alone!

Spend time with the Holy Spirit in prayer and ask Him to fill you with his peace.  Dear young people, we are praying for you. You are special followers of Christ, precious witnesses of the love of God in an anxious world. Jesus wants to confirm you so you can be his ambassadors in our world today. Be steadfast as you continue on your journey of faith toward Confirmation and the incredible life God has planned for you!

We miss your smiling faces and truly desire to see you soon!

✠Terrence Prendergast, S.J.
Archbishop of Ottawa-Cornwall
