Message from Father Lindsay at Saint John the Apostle

posted Mar 23, 2020, 3:43 PM by Stephen Gay

t is with sadness that I share with you the difficult but necessary decision Archbishop Terrence Prendergast made today (Monday, March 23).  I quote:

“Following the orders of Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health for the Eastern Ontario Health Unit concerning closure of places of worship, I ask that effective immediately all churches in the Alexandria-Cornwall and Ottawa dioceses be closed—even for private prayer—until further notice.”

St John the Apostle Church will therefore be closed until further notice.

It is in times like these that we must all look out for one another. Reach out by telephone to those who could use a friendly voice to talk to.  And remember, social distancing does not equal spiritual distancing.  There are plenty of internet sites where you can participate in daily masses and find inspirational talks.  A list of some schedules for TV masses can be found on our website.

On the Archdiocesan website (catholicottawa.ca) the Archbishop has posted some “Thoughts in the Time of COVID-19.” Simply scroll down and click on the image of his Coat of Arms.  He plans to post daily messages to keep in touch.

My own private masses and daily prayers are being offered up for all of you.  I will video record a weekly homily/reflection to be posted on our Facebook page on Sundays.

Please forward this message to anyone you think might be interested or impacted.  Thank you.

God bless.
