Volunteering in OCSB Schools

posted Aug 28, 2018, 1:33 PM by Stephen Gay

We strongly value your participation in our school community.  Parent involvement is vital to our success and we hope to encourage it in any way we can.  In order to insure the security of all students in school, the Board has introduced a new policy with respect to background checks.

Beginning September 2018,  volunteers working with students in the OCSB must complete a vulnerable sector check. This includes parents and other volunteers taking part infield trips, those working with students in schools, and those volunteering at school events. Here is a link to the revised OCSB criminal record check Policy.

Please note that there are three types of Criminal Record Checks;

Level 1: Criminal Record Check (CRC)

Level 2: Criminal Record Check and Judicial Matters Check (CRJM)

Level 3: Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

Anyone over 18 who wishes to take part in a volunteer opportunity in a school must complete a

Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check.

There are two options for competing a vulnerable sector check:

1. In person –

2. Online  -

We value the role you play at Saint John XXIII.  Thank you for your vital contribution. Please consider completing the background check over the course of the summer.   We look forward to working with everyone in September.
